At Palo Verde our Green Team consisting of students, teachers, staff members, parents and our principle work at setting goals and creating solutions to the current environmental issues facing our community.

Our students demonstrating their committed to the environment and the future of their planet by taking part in creating a more sustainble school community every day.

Achievements:

Palo Verde is working toward to become one of the district’s leading elementary schools in implementing sustainable ideas.

•  Paperless office
50%  of our teachers and staff have opted to receive their copies of the Voice, PTA announcements and other flyers via email. Close to 2/3rds of our teachers have classroom websites and about 1/3rd use the email instead of paper to communicate with their students and their families.

• Teaching sustainable living standards
With the help of some of our dedicated teachers we are one of the
first elementary schools to start a Green Team whereby we teach and
encourage our children to live and promote sustainable living
standards.

• Walk or roll to school
Every school day over 50 students ride their bicycles or scooters to
school. Another 20 to 25 students walk, carpool or ride the bus to school.

• Save money
As a school we save money on garbage disposal costs by teaching and
promoting good recycling habits on campus.

• Fundraising
We earn our school money by taking part in the plastic-bag recycling
programs and have so far recycled over 50 pounds of batteries, old
cell phones and other electronic items.

• Green Team Commitee
We will be one of the first elementary schools to have a Green
Committee that will oversee every aspect of our transition to a more
sustainable campus. And one of the first to boost a Green Corner on
our website including editorials by our 5th graders on environmental
issues, as well as tips and testimonials promoting a greener
lifestyle.
